Men know that you are mine by birth:
My nest,  my refuge,  and my hearth,
My mother,  native land,  dear earth!
Sever soul and body??  Death but can.
O Azerbaijan,  my Azerbaijan!

"Gazakhi" is an ancient dance of Azerbaijan. As the name implies, the dance originated in this region, but has been spread far beyond the Gazakh. This dance is performed only by male performers. "Gazakhi" is very rhythmic and full of complex movements. It is assumed that the dance originated as a war dance, and the warriors danced it before the fight to lift the spirit of the troops.

There are different versions of the dance and it can be performed for different instruments. In 1936 a great Azeri composer Uzeir Hajibeyov created a State Ensemble of Song and Dance and put the dance "Gazakhi" to the musical notation. As a stage production "Gazakhi" is danced by a group of men. But in everyday life, on folk holidays the dance usually performed by single dancers.
