Men know that you
are mine by birth:
My nest, my refuge, and my hearth,
My mother, native land, dear earth!
Sever soul and body?? Death but can.
O Azerbaijan, my Azerbaijan! Samed Vurgun
There are several old tombs
on the territory of Gazakh district. These tombs can be
found in the old cemeteries of I and II Shikhli, Khanliglar
and Huseynbeyli villages of Gazakh. The resemble to each
other with their architectural style and construction
specifications. As a rule, the tombs have four or six
corners. Their upper parts are completed with cone shaped
domes according to the number of their corners. Local stone
is used on their construction. From outside they are coated
with neatly ground stone and from inside plastered. Only in
Khanliglar village red brick is used on the construction of
the tombs. The bricks are set so that they create
geometrical decoration. Despite general similarities, the
tombs are in different size and shape. Inside some have tall
carved gravestones made from red sinter. The tombs are built
in XVIII-XIX centuries. Made in similar architectural style,
the tombs demonstrate the existence of common aesthetic and
architectural-construction rules.
